An ancestral know-how

Soufia Rekik, an ambitious woman with a passion for quality craftsmanship, passed on her ancestral know-how to her daughter, Najla Rekik, who built upon the pastry-making skills she had learned. Armed with this wealth of expertise, she leveraged it by establishing the first artisanal Tunisian pastry-making business in 1981. It’s worth noting that Soufia Rekik was one of the pioneers in her hometown of Sfax, who transformed Tunisian pastry making into a fully-fledged economic activity for women, thus giving her city a culinary cultural touchstone. As women are the custodians of tradition in Tunisia, Soufia Rekik passed on this ancestral know-how to her daughter, Najla. A key figure thanks to her organizational and management skills, and inheriting her mother’s entrepreneurial spirit, she continues the business today.
